Anyone who has anything to do with all things mechanical will find this amusing. Made simply from an automotive connecting rod (conrod) sat on a base made from two cylinder head bolts, it has three key hooks. This design resulted from discussions with motorbike enthusiasts who wanted key holders for their homes that would be instantly recognisable as being for their own keys. Available in mainly a purple metallic base colour with burgundy low-lights, the key holder is finished in a high gloss acrylic lacquer. Various colour combinations utilising the standard metallic colours of black, silver, burgundy and purple are available – please ask.

This coffee table incorporates a real engine from a car – in this case this is an aluminium K series Rover engine. It stands around 18 inches tall and is idea for use alongside easy chairs and sofas. The top is toughened glass 600mm x 1200mm x 6mm thick.

The legs terminate with aluminium ball feet. The legs and feet are fully adjustable and cater for uneven floors. There are no edges on the feet to “dig in“ to a wooden floor. This means the ball feet should obviate the need for the standard ugly plastic floor protector cups. Also most heavy components within the engine have been removed.

The chopper bike is powered by a vee-twin engine, represented by two reduced height valves and valve springs. This is a handmade Traditional Lucky Horseshoe for the Home and Garden.

A real used steel horseshoe has been prepared by hand to create an authentic and traditional rural Lucky Charm.
A metal English rose bud and metal leaves have been welded to the horseshoe to add a decorative touch to this traditional and quaint English Countryside lucky wall hanging. The whole ensemble has been powder-coated in silver. A Hammerite gloss aubergine colour has been used to pick out the details on the rose and its leaves. This horseshoe can be displayed either outside or inside the home.
A length of burgundy silk plisse has been tied through pre-drilled holes in the horseshoe to enable easy temporary hanging of the horseshoe. Alternatively, if preferred, the silk plisse can be easily removed and the horseshoe screwed to the wall using the drilled holes. DO NOT use the silk plisse to hang the horseshoe outside.

Sir Cliff Richard's fan club recently commissioned me - via Divine Art Gallery in Preston - to produce a bespoke art piece for Sir Cliff's 65th birthday. This has now been presented to him at the Dorchester. For me it is a great example of my larger artwork.

The Idea for the Artwork

Since I was ten years old I have been a 50s/60s Rock and Roll fan. One of the first records my parents allowed me to play was “Move It” by Cliff Richard and the Drifters. When I was 21, my party started with a local group called the Panthers…… they played “Move It” as their opening number. When Dave and I married 20 years ago, the evening reception entertainment was strictly 1950s/1960s music. The group we hired was The Rapiers. They played a lot of the Shadows music, and mimicked their stage act. At my current age of 43 I still enjoy the same music.

When I was contacted by Divine Art Gallery and asked if I could design and make a suitable bespoke artwork for Sir Cliff Richard’s birthday I truly thought I had misheard them. I knew straight away what I would like to make – something amusing in response to the many years of entertainment Cliff had given us via his music.


Components within the Artwork

Within the artwork I have included several engine parts. For instance the drummer is stood behind a piston, valves and valve springs. All the Shadows and Cliff have plain engine bearings for arms, and their bodies are made from steel hauser. Cliff’s podium is also supported by part of an engine valve.

Made from a selection of standard automotive parts, this specially commissioned vehicle sits on an array of Rover K series through bolts. These bolts make sure the vehicle does not tip over as it is quite heavy.

The 4 X 4 is powered by a vee-four engine, represented by four valves and valve springs. On the right-hand side is a large exhaust pipe. The front and rear axles have differentials and the suspension is heavily sprung with twin coils at each wheel. The wheels and tyres are over-sized and have been fabricated to represent the monster truck style. The tyres are made from genuine used motorbike drive chain. The chassis and roll cage are all bespoke fabrication from 6mm steel bar with the rear wheels inboard and the front wheels outboard. The steering wheel is made using the head of a steam valve. The gargoyle driver and the attacker gargoyle on the roll cage are both fabricated from pairs of pliers and an array of cylinder head bolts.

All Death Riders are spray painted with a high quality automotive metallic silver base coat. Further paint effects using co-ordinating burgundy, purple and black help to depict the dark nature of this sinister gargoyle bike rider. The whole sculpture is then finished in a high gloss acrylic lacquer.

The whole engine sits upon adjustable domed headed studs. These are not suited to wooden floors and so must be stood inside plastic floor protector cups. These studs have been positioned in such a way that these ugly protector cups should remain unseen under the body of the crank case.

Most heavy components within the engine have been removed. The VW flat four engine has quite a wide usage...... including Beetles, trikes and even aircraft. The engine is fairly symmetrical which makes the looks of the finished table very attractive. The glass supports have been designed to look like propellers which adds to the overall glamour of this well known and very adaptable engine.

Inspired by the Pepperami Man adverts, Mr Bolt is made from a real pre-used cylinder head bolt. In this sculpture Mr Bolt is seen waving a bent valve in his right hand.
This is true Petrol Head territory. As is typical from die-hard petrol heads, we try to get more and more performance from our engines. The more we try, the more we seem to get problems, and consequently become more and more frustrated.
As Mr Bolt "finally gets it right" he then celebrates by putting his thumb up and dancing whilst waving his valve in celebration in the air. The sculpture has a shiny silver powder coated finish and stands just under 25cm tall on a circular 10cm diameter base.
