Air Plant Food

Air Plant Food

No mixing, ready to spray. This air plant food is specially formulated foliar feed recommended for Airplants throughout the year. It is already mixed at precisely the strength of solution required, and contains the ideal proportions of all elements for faster growth, long-lasting flower bracts and the production of offsets. For best results, use exactly as directed every week throughout the spring and summer, and every two – three weeks during autumn and winter.

All houseplants readily absorb nutrients through their leaves and obtain great benefit from regular foliar feeding, which can also act as a quick “pick me up” for damaged or ailing plants.

Piston and Conrod

Piston and Conrod

This is deliberately made to appeal to Petrol Heads.

This uses a piston and connecting rod combination as a backdrop to a mini indoor garden and is extremely popular with both men and women. Three or four living air plants (Tillandsias) are used in the finished product. These are currently only available from May through to September due to the plants’ susceptibility to cold temperatures experienced at outdoor events.

The Piston Tillandsias are finished in high quality metallic automotive paint. The base colour is silver with purple/black lowlights. The whole artefact is then finished with a high gloss acrylic lacquer.

When the lacquer is completely dry and hard, the air plants are then arranged and fixed onto the metalwork using only recommended Tillandsia fixative.

Chain Swirl

Chain Swirl

Metal Artist Elaine Southworth was inspired to produce “Living Art” when visiting old restored railways. Unused wagons, coaches and ironwork in the sidings had grass growing against the metal. She wanted to reproduce the images of inanimate metal against the living green of the grass. This has been successfully achieved with her “Living Art”.

The combination of metal art sculpture and air plants adds another dimension to indoor décor and horticulture resulting in a very low maintenance living art piece.

The chain swirl is approximately 12” (300mm) tall, 4” (100mm) at its widest point with two tillandsias fixed to it dressed with reindeer moss.

The chain is finished in high quality metallic automotive paint. The base colour is either a deep burgundy, black, lustrous purple or silver. The whole artefact is then finished with a high gloss acrylic lacquer.

When the lacquer is completely dry and hard, the air plants are then arranged and fixed onto the metalwork using only recommended Tillandsia fixative.

Although extremely easy to care for, to make doubly sure your air plants continue at their best, a care sheet is supplied with each Living Art sculpture

Air Plant Description

Air plants are so called because they grow naturally without soil, taking all the moisture and nutrients they require from the air. Most originate from Central and South America, where they grow perched on rocks, trees or even telegraph wires! In mid-air they trap small quantities of rainfall or mist in the minute, soft, fur-like scales which give the silver-grey colour to their leaves.

Tillandsia Guitar

Tillandsia Guitar

The sculpture is of an electric guitar leaning against a mesh backdrop - positioned in such a way that the guitar looks as if it has been abandoned for a long time - enough for plants to grow round it.

The whole sculpture stands approximately 6.5” (163mm) tall, and the base is around 5” (118mm) across at its widest point with two tillandsias fixed to it dressed with reindeer moss.

The base is specially designed and exclusive to Cool Engineered Art. The base represents a gear wheel and has the word “Cool” cut into it.

The whole metal sculpture is finished in high quality metallic automotive paint. The base colour is silver with a dusting of burgundy and a hint of purple lowlights. The whole artefact is then finished with a high gloss acrylic lacquer.

When the lacquer is completely dry and hard, the air plants are then arranged and fixed onto the metalwork using only recommended Tillandsia fixative.

Creaking Gate

Creaking Gate

This uses a custom built “gate” as a backdrop to a Tillandsia Harrisii. The gate has been welded to the base at a small angle, slightly tilting back away from the air plant. The air plant spreads its leaves through the bars of the gate, which makes more use of the three dimensional aspect of this living sculpture.

The base is specially designed and exclusive to Cool Engineered Art. The base represents a gear wheel and has the word “Cool” cut into it. The bars of the gate are 6mm in diameter. The whole sculpture is 168mm tall and 150mm across at its widest point.

The Gate sculpture is finished in high quality metallic automotive paint. The base colour is black with purple/silver highlights on the base. The whole artefact is then finished with a high gloss acrylic lacquer.

When the lacquer is completely dry and hard, the air plants are then arranged and fixed onto the metalwork using only recommended Tillandsia fixative.
